A well illustrated text on the subject of Phrenology, a pseudo scientific belief that the shape of an individual's skull can be used to identify character traits and likely behaviours.

A good hardback with black cloth covers with gilt roundel title and gilt title to spine. Cover housed in vintage plastic protective cover, taped to endpapers in inside covers. Cover bumped with ends of spine worn. Previous owner's name and 1880 date to endpaper, and on the title page of Part II of the book "A Delineation of the Character, Physiological Development and Present Condition of...", a series of physiological measurements noted against human characteristics, is given in pencil by H.E. Swain, also in 1880.

Text is good throughout - generally clean and bright with scattered occasional usage marks. Occasional cracking to gutters. Well illustrated.
