A wonderful piece of vintage Glasgow transport ephemera with an especially evocative literary association - an original Glasgow bus blind displaying the destination "Lanark", printed in white lettering on black linen cloth.

Dating from the 1960s or 1970s, the blind originates from the period during which Alasdair Gray was developing and completing Lanark, his landmark modern Scottish novel, begun in the 1950s and finally published in 1981. While intended as a practical item of municipal transport signage, the piece now carries an unintended but striking resonance with Gray's imagined world and the strong sense of place that runs throughout his work and Glasgow itself.

In very good condition overall, with some signs of age and usage consistent with its original purpose. Note: Reflections in the photograph due to the item being photographed inside protective plastic.

Dimensions: approx 155mm high x 835mm wide.

Note: for mainland UK delivery this item will be delivered flat, backed with protective board. For deliveries elsewhere the cloth will be securely rolled.
