A biography of Scottish courtier and landowner, Sir Gideon Murray of Elibank. There are a number of interesting additions to the book; The first free endpaper carries an inscription by the author to Professor J.D. Mackie. Also at the rear of the book a 2pp Autograph Letter Signed is tipped into the book to Professor Mackie (from 1935). A further 4pp letter in a different hand to the same recipient is also included (from 1961). This would appear to be John Duncan Mackie, who was Chair of Scottish History and Literature at the University of Glasgow. There are also a number of tipped in articles fixed to the endpapers at the beginning concerning the book's publication.
