Rupert T. Gould's Oddities: A Book of Unexplained Facts is a fascinating collection of historical mysteries, strange phenomena and apparently inexplicable events, examined with considerably more scepticism and scholarly curiosity than its title might suggest. Gould - a former Royal Navy officer, horologist and polymath best remembered for his pioneering restoration of John Harrison's marine chronometers - investigates subjects ranging from Nostradamus and unexplained disappearances to curious natural phenomena, extraordinary people and other puzzles that had resisted conventional explanation. First published in 1928, Oddities became one of Gould's best-known books and remains an engaging early example of the serious investigation of anomalous and unexplained phenomena.

A good (minus) blue cloth hardback with gilt title to spine. No dustjacket. Spine is a little sunned and cloth with a few marks. Frayed to head and tail of spine, which is also a little cocked. Inner hinge is cracked to webbing at rear.

Text is generally clean with occasional scattered spotting.  Some foxing to endpapers and titles. Previous owner's name to first free endpaper. Illustrated.
