Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl and Sir Orfeo brings together three of the finest surviving works of Middle English literature in translations by J. R. R. Tolkien, whose lifelong scholarship was devoted to the language and literature of medieval England. Prepared for publication after Tolkien's death by his son, Christopher Tolkien, this first edition presents the celebrated translations alongside a preface by Christopher, offering both a major contribution to medieval literary scholarship and an important posthumous work by one of the twentieth century's most influential authors.
