A good hardback with leather spine and corners. With raised bands and red morocco label. Front cover with chagrin style burgundy cloth and bearing a gilt roundel. With prize presentation plate to first pastedown from Glasgow School of Art. Prize for 'Highest Marks in a Test Examination in Anatomy'. The recipient being 'Thomas M. Pratt', in 1882/3.
Provenance: Likely to be related to William Pratt, possibly younger brother? (as this volume was acquired with a collection of his art books), who studied at Glasgow School of Art and Academie Julien. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Paris Salon Royal Academy, and the Royal Scottish Academy, amongst others. He was a talented and highly respected artist, particularly known for his scenes of country life.
Covers with significant scuffing, and wear and bumping to extremities. Spine faded and worn. Previous owner's pencil inscription to first free endpaper. Some light spotting to endpapers, which are just starting to crack. Foxing to frontispiece tissue guard. Text is bright and clean throughout, and all edges of text block are finished in red.
