The Albert N'Yanza; The Nile, Samuel White Baker, 2 Volumes, 1866
The Albert N'Yanza, Great Basin of the Nile, and the Explorations of the Nile Sources. By Samuel White Baker, M.A. F.R.G.S. With Maps, Illustrations, and Portraits. In Two Volumes.
Published by Macmillan and Co, London, 1866. Two volumes complete. First edition.
A good set of this fascinating exploration of the source of the Nile. Leather spines and corners to marbled boards. Covers are worn and scuffed with the leather rubbed. Hinges are cracked, showing webbing, but all still bound. Marbled edge to text block. Text is good with minor foxing. The large fold-out map is still bound into Volume 1 and has a minor tear. The coloured map is also included in volume 1. Both maps are actually listed in the contents page of Volume 2, but as expected are included in the first volume. Likewise the extra plate opposite p. 151 is also included although not called for in the contents - again, as expected. One plate in Volume 1 has a substantial tear, though is still bound. An imperfect, but interesting set of this amazing tale of Victorian exploration.
