Biography of John Russell and his wife, Kate Stanley - Lord and Lady Amberley. Both were born in 1842. John Russell was a British writer and politician. He supported women's suffrage and birth control and was known for his unorthodox views on religion. Lady Amberley was a strong supporter of women's education. Bertrand Russell was their son.

Published by Leonard & Virginia Woolf at the Hogarth Press, London, 1937. First edition. 

A good set of two green cloth hardbacks with gilt titles to spine. Some bumping to extremities and some wear to covers. Soundly bound, but a little give in the spines.

Text is bright and clean throughout. Illustrated. Some offsetting and spotting to endpapers. Dust toned to top edge and some light spotting to text block edges. Illustrated with photographic plates.
