Olivia Manning's celebrated The Balkan Trilogy is one of the outstanding literary accounts of the Second World War, drawing on the author's own experiences in Romania and Greece during the turbulent opening years of the conflict. Through the experiences of Harriet and Guy Pringle, Manning combines political upheaval, personal relationships and keen social observation to create a vivid portrait of a Europe on the brink of collapse. Praised for its richly observed characters and evocative sense of place, the trilogy has become a modern classic of twentieth-century English literature, later adapted for television by the BBC. This set comprises the true first editions, first impressions of all three volumes, which have been rebound.
