The Botanical Text-Book; Part I; Structural Botany or Organography on the Basis of Morphology, Asa Gray, 1880
This is the sixth edition of American botanist Asa Gray’s influential textbook, first published in 1842. This volume, Part I, focuses on structural botany (organography) – the study of plant form and function – framed within the principles of morphology, taxonomy, and phytography. It also includes a detailed glossary of botanical terms, making it a comprehensive guide for students, educators, and plant scientists of the late 19th century.
Gray was one of the most prominent botanists of his time, and his work helped formalise botanical education in the United States while also bridging the scientific communities of Britain and America.
