A fair to good hardback in the Publisher's pictorial cloth binding, with gilt titles and black printed design - rubbed and bumped with considerable wear. With substantial give in the spine. The printed endpapers with some cracking. All bound, but a little weak.

Text is clean, but with scattered spotting. Ink stamp to title page. Dust toned and spotted to text block edges. Two of the tartan Plates with tape strengthening at gutter. Despite imperfections, a good reading copy, and lovely to have the author's signature in the first edition of this very popular book.
