The Early Ceramic Wares of China by A. L. Hetherington, 1st edition, Benn Brothers 1922.

With an introduction by R L Hobson, keeper of the department of Ceramics and Ethnography, British Museum.

1st edition. Published by Benn Brothers 1922, London.

This scarce first edition is an important work, later to be followed in the same format by R L Hobson's Wares of the Ming Dynasty.

Hardback, brown cloth binding with gold horse motif on front cover. Gold lettering to spine. Cover in good condition with wear to edges (see photographs). Binding is firm.

Text is very good condition throughout. Some spotting to endpapers, but only occasional spotting to text and plates. Text is printed on thick uncut handmade off-white paper which is very attractive and plates are on glossier white stock. Plates are tissue guarded.

Not ex-library. A tiny booksellers stamp from McGoff in Liverpool is on inside front cover. First free endpaper has pencil signature of previous owner. Very occasional pencil annotation to text.

xviii + 160pp + plates. There are 100 illustrations of which 12 are in colour.
