Published by John Murray, London. Second edition, 1872.

A near fine full leather hardback. Brown polished calf. Spine with raised bands, red morocco label and gilt decoration. With prize presentation plate to first pastedown from Glasgow School of Art and Haldene Academy. Prize for 'Figure Painted from Life'. The recipient being 'William Pratt', in 1877.

Provenance: William Pratt studied at Glasgow School of Art and Academie Julien. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Paris Salon Royal Academy, and the Royal Scottish Academy, amongst others. He was a talented and highly respected artist, particularly known for his scenes of country life.

Covers with light scuffing, and mild wear and bumping to extremities. A handsome book. Soundly bound. Marbled endpapers. Some spotting to endpapers. Text is bright and clean throughout, and all edges of text block are finished in red. One fold-out with some light creasing and spotting.
