The Fall of Kelvin Walker, Alasdair Gray's third novel, is a sharply observed satire of ambition, identity and the pursuit of success in 1960s Britain. It follows the naïve but determined Kelvin Walker as he leaves Glasgow for London convinced that his intelligence and charisma will bring him fame, only to find his assumptions challenged by reality. Written with Gray's characteristic wit and social insight, the novel explores themes of self-delusion, class and personal transformation that became hallmarks of his celebrated fiction.
