Published in 1794, this fourteenth edition of The History of Scotland by William Robertson presents his account of the reigns of Mary, Queen of Scots, and James VI, concluding with James's accession to the English throne in 1603. First issued in 1759, the work went through numerous editions in the later eighteenth century and reflects Robertson's measured, documentary approach to historical writing.
