This is a deluxe 1923 edition of The Imitation of Christ, the enduring Christian devotional attributed to Thomas à Kempis, one of the most widely read religious works in Western Christianity. First composed in Latin during the early 15th century, the text focuses on the interior life, humility, and the imitation of Christ's example - making it a cornerstone of Christian mystical and devotional literature.

This 1923 edition by Philip Allan & Company, was limited to just 100 copies. Printed in blue and black throughout on handmade paper, this deluxe issue reflects the influence of the Arts and Crafts movement and the revival of fine book production during the early twentieth century. Printing was complete on the third day of November 1923, and then published on the 30th of the same month.

This copy is from the edition of 100 copies printed on hand-made paper. Although the limitation leaf was intended to be numbered, this copy was issued without a number. An additional 550 copies were issued as the standard edition on wove paper at the same time. Borders were designed by Violet Dale.

Here beginneth the book called The Imitation of Christ written in Latin & translated in to English.

Published by Philip Allan & Company, London. Limited first edition of 100 copies, November 1923.

A very good copy overall, bound with blue paper over boards and a beige cloth spine with printed title label. A spare title label is also loosely inserted inside the book. Covers with light wear and some age toning. There also some brown splash spots from some kind of spillage to the binding.

The text pages inside are actually in fine condition and printed in duotone blue and black. This is largely an 'unopened' copy with the page gatherings still requiring separation at the top edge. First and last blank endpapers have offsetting. With blue page marker ribbon.

A handsome volume.
