An attractive prize presentation set from Glasgow School of Art.

The Literary Works of Joshua Reynolds, First President of The Royal Academy. To Which is Added a Memoir of the Author; With Remarks on His Professional Character, Illustrative of His Principles and Practice. By Henry Beechy. In Two Volumes. New and Improved Edition.

Published by Bell & Daldy, London. Vol I is dated to 1870 and Vol II to 1855.

A very good set - in red leather presentation binding with elaborate gilt decoration to front and spine. Spine with raised bands. Cover carrying the title 'Science and Art Department. Queen's Prize for Art. With prize presentation plate to first pastedown. The recipient being 'William Pratt', in 1871.

Provenance: William Pratt studied at Glasgow School of Art and Academie Julien. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Paris Salon Royal Academy, and the Royal Scottish Academy, amongst others. He was a talented and highly respected artist, particularly known for his scenes of country life.

Covers with light bumping and wear to extremities. Vol II slightly darker in colour with some small black marks to covers. A handsome set. Soundly bound. Feathered marble endpapers. Some light spotting to endpapers. Text is bright and clean throughout and all edges of text block are bright, shiny gilt.
