First published between 1954 and 1955, The Lord of the Rings is Tolkien's epic high-fantasy masterpiece and one of the most influential works of modern literature. Set in the richly imagined world of Middle-earth, the trilogy follows Frodo Baggins and the Fellowship on their perilous quest to destroy the One Ring and defeat the Dark Lord Sauron. Combining myth, language invention, and themes of friendship, sacrifice, and courage, the work redefined the fantasy genre and has remained continuously in print since its debut, inspiring generations of readers and numerous adaptations.

All three volumes in good red cloth bindings, each with its original fold-out map at the rear. The books are all soundly bound. The books have probably been stored in slightly damp conditions in the past and so are a little stale. The red cloth covers exhibit some light spotted marks to boards and edges as a result, with light spotting to text block edges and some spotting to endpapers.

The dustkackets are generally very good - intact and not price-clipped. Some wear to extremities and mild fading to spine. All priced at £4.95 and inner flaps marked as ‘Revised Second Edition’.

Text is bright and clear. No owner’s inscriptions.

The jackets now housed in removable, clear protective plastic.

Maps are very good - all clean and intact. The map at the rear of The Fellowship has a small tear where it meets the spine at lower edge with surrounding endpapers with some dog eared nibbles at this position (see photo).
