The Plays of Bernard Shaw, Constable & Company, Boxed Set, 1927

The Plays of Bernard Shaw, Boxed Set, 1927. 12 Volumes, boxed presentation set.

Published by Constable & Company Limited, London, 1927. Reprint of 1926 Pocket Edition.

A near fine set of Bernard Shaw's plays - each volume in Navy Blue leatherette with facsimile signature to front and gilt title and decals to spine.

The Saint Joan volume features a frontispiece portrait, with tissue guard, and facsimile signature under the portrait. Each volume with gilt top edge and silk ribbon,  and text is lovely and clean throughout. Remarkably, most of the volumes still carry their original glassine covers - which were always just intended as a temporary protective covering. The glassine is missing or incomplete in the two volumes at either end of the box - although the scrunched up remains of them are still present.

The presentation box is blue cloth covered wood, with gilt facsimile signature to top and hinged section with protective blue velvet interior. The box is in very good condition with some minor scuffing and wear.

A lovely set and uncommon to find one in such good condition.

Outer box: 195mm high x 229mm wide x 129mm deep

Each volume 257mm high x 167mm wide.

Weight of set approximately 3.55kg.
