The Principal Acts of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, 1750-1792. 2 Vols.
The Principal Acts of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, 1750-1792.
SOLD
Conveened at Edinburgh, 1750-1792. Collected and Extracted out of the Records by the Clerk thereof.
Printed by Mr James Davidson, and Robert Fleming, Printers to the Church of Scotland, and sold by John Paton Bookseller on the Parliament-Close, of whom had complete sets.
This a substantial 2 volume set bound in original full calf binding with 6 raised bands to spine. Each volume collates the various Acts into one book. The first volume runs from 10th May 1750 until 24th May, 1770. The second volume from 23rd May 1771 until 17th May 1792.
A very good set. The two volumes have the number 5 and 6 on their spines so would have been part of a larger set. Each volume is inscribed with an inscription showing the books were the property of the 'Kirk Session of Falkland'. A Kirk Session is the elected representatives, or 'elders' of the Church responsible for governing the Church in that locality.
Each volume is very substantial, the two together weighing approximately 4.5kg, unpacked.
The full leather covers are marked and bumped with cracking to the joints, but everything is still bound. Text block is firmly bound together and is in very good condition. There are occasional minor flaws and marks, but really a very nice set overall, considering the age of these books, the contents of which are scarce.
Dimensions: Each volume approximately 317mm x 200mm, with the first volume 55mm thick and the second volume 65mm thick.
