The Scottish Nation, William Anderson, 3 Volumes, Fullarton 1863
The Scottish Nation; or the Surnames, Families, Literature, Honours and Biographical History of the People of Scotland. By William Anderson.
Published by A. Fullarton & Co, Edinburgh, 1863. 1st edition. Three volumes complete. By William Anderson.
A good set overall of these substantial volumes. Leather spines and corners with gilt raised bands and title labels (the red 'Scottish Nation' labels are missing from Volumes I and III). Chagrin style cloth over boards. Covers are bumped and shelf worn with some rubbed and worn areas (see photos). Inner joints are generally cracked along endpapers, but still soundly bound. Presentation inscription to endpaper from a previous owner in 1885.
Text is in very good condition throughout, and is generally clean and clear. Some age discoloration, minor flaws and occasional staining and foxing, but still an impressive set. Speckled edges to text block. Well illustrated with engravings and woodcuts in text. An uncommon set in complete form.
