The Soldier's Return by Robert Burns. Illustrated by John Faed, R.S.A..
Published for the Members of the Royal Association for the Promotion of the Fine Arts in Scotland, 1857. First edition. Printed by T. Constable, Edinburgh.
A large folio format, with blue cloth hardback covers with gilt design. Some shelf wear and bumping. Endpapers split to webbing but all still bound. A fair to good copy.
The book features the song, The Soldier's Return, written by Robert Burns in 1793, in text, with one or two verses featured and illustrated with lovely fine engravings.
Text pages are age toned with minor marks. The engravings have some foxing around the edges with the images themselves remaining clean and bright. Near the beginning there is one rather ragged paper edge in the guttering and we are not sure if a page has been removed or not. There is no obvious content missing, so it is likely to have been a blank, if it has been removed.
Text in English/Scots.
Unnumbered, but contains;
Frontispiece engraving + 1pp title + 1pp List of Illustrations. Followed by 5 engravings on heavier stock, each followed with a verse page and blank guard.
Dimensions: Approx 435mm high x 304mm wide x 8mm deep..
