1st edition.
Ltd No. 15 of only 24 copies offered for sale of this, the rarest of all editions of this book. 27 were printed and only 24 offered for sale.
Possibly the rarest Chinese art book we are ever likely to handle. We cannot find any record of any copies of this edition being sold in the UK in the last 20 years.
This book is Numbered 15, and is signed by the author and includes an extra colour plate. It is bound in Vellum and printed on Japanese Vellum. xvi + 240pp + 128 illustrations of which 11 are in colour. Benn Brothers Ltd. 1923.
A remarkable opportunity to acquire one of the rarest books on Chinese art.
In near fine condition overall. Vellum cover is very bright and clean overall (very good). Small feint ring stain on front cover and small part of spine joint on front beginning to split (about 2cm) to front, though not split all the way through. Inside front cover and first free endpaper show traces of previous bookplates. Very small pen marking (about 9mm high on top right of inside cover).
Text and plates in near fine condition. Some minor age discoloration to paper as would be expected, but really very nice indeed.
We can't imagine we'll ever have another one of these for sale - a unique opportunity for the serious collector of books on Chinese art and ceramics.
