The Works of Charles Lamb; A New Edition, 1840.
The Works of Charles Lamb; A New Edition. Comprising The Essay of Elia, First and Second Series, The Poetical Works of Charles Lamb, Rosamund Gray, Essays, &c. Effectively 4 volumes bound as one.
Published by Edward Moxon, Dover Street, London, 1840. Presumed First edition thus.
A good full leather hardback with gilt, raised bands and title label to spine. Covers are shelf worn and bumped with scratches and marks. Endpapers and pages edges with feathered marbling. Remains of bookplate removal to inside front cover. Endpapers are split at first joint, but all still soundly bound.
Text is clean and is nice and bright throughout. One of the blank free endpapers has the upper corner removed (probably to remove a previous owner's name). Very occasional pencil annotation. A nice copy of a scarce edition.
