Wild Swans; Three Daughters of China, by Jung Chang, 1st edition Review Copy, with notes, 1991

An interesting association copy of Jung Chang's modern classic. This is a publisher's review copy, retaining the original HarperCollins review slip, and contains six pages of extensive pencilled notes at the rear, evidently made in preparation for a review or critical assessment of the book. The volume comes from the personal library of the distinguished theatre director, writer and biographer Alan Strachan (1944-2025), acquired directly from his library at his former home in Invergowrie. Although the authorship of the pencilled notes has not been established, their presence in a review copy from Strachan's library provides an interesting literary association.

In very good condition overall  - dark green cloth hardback with gilt titl to spine. Faint ring mark to rear cover although not immediately obvious, but can be caught in the light. The dustjacket is contemporary to the book (and matches the price on the review slip) , and is very good overall. Some sunning to spine and some toning to extremities. The lower rear edge has a slight moisture stain. Topmost corner of front flap a little worn.

The dustjacket is now housed in a clear, protective, removable sleeve.

The text pages are clear and bright throughout, with some light thumbing marks to vertical edge of text block. A little age-toning to extremities of the photographic plates. The final 6 pages contain detailed pencil annotations.
