Published by James Ballantyne and Company, Edinburgh, 1812. First edition thus. 14 volumes Complete. A scarce set of books on the works of Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher, English dramatists of the early 17th Century.
Covers are a later binding, but text is the 1812 original. Navy blue cloth hardback set with red and gilt labels to spine. Covers are good - all soundly bound, but with sun fading to spines and occasional partial sun fading to covers, and occasional staining. Mild shelf rubbing.
Text is very good throughout - printed with gilt top edge and other edges uncut as issued. Some foxing to endpapers and owner's presentation inscription to her husband who gave this set as a wedding present. First volume has frontispiece portraits of Beaumont and Fletcher with shared tissue guard, with some corner staining on around 4 leaves of the book. Otherwise text nice and clean throughout with gilt top edge retaining its shine.
