A major scholarly work by Sir James George Frazer, expanding the comparative method that made The Golden Bough famous and applying it to the narratives, customs, and legal traditions of the Old Testament. Across three substantial volumes, Frazer examines biblical material alongside parallels from ancient Near Eastern, classical, and global folk traditions, exploring themes of ritual, myth, taboo, and social law. First issued during the final years of the First World War, Folk-Lore in the Old Testament represents one of Frazer’s most ambitious later studies and remains an influential early twentieth-century contribution to comparative religion and anthropology. Complete sets are increasingly uncommon and continue to be sought after as foundational reference works in the history of religious and folkloric scholarship.
