First published in 1908 in a strictly limited edition of 240 numbered copies, The Kirkcaldy Burgh Records by Lachlan MacBean is a substantial and important source for the municipal and civic history of Kirkcaldy, Fife. Printed and published at The Fifeshire Advertiser office in Kirkcaldy, the work brings together the town’s burgh records, annals, charter material and extracts from original documents, together with a descriptive account of the ancient burgh. Issued as a serious antiquarian undertaking rather than a commercial production, it remains a key reference for local historians, genealogists and researchers into Scottish urban development. This first edition, numbered example, represents a scarce and authoritative record of Kirkcaldy’s historical foundations.

The Kirkcaldy Burgh Records with the Annals of Kirkcaldy, the Town's Charter, Extracts from Original Documents, and a Description of the Ancient Burgh, by L. Macbean.

Printed and Published at "The Fifeshire Advertiser" Office, Kirkcaldy, 1908. First edition. Numbered 141 out of 240 printed copies.

Bound in the original green cloth, gilt stamped to the upper board with the official armorial bearings of the Burgh of Kirkcaldy, featuring the castle device and the civic motto “Vigilando Munio” (By vigilance I protect), reinforcing the work’s municipal authority and origin.

A good copy with gilt title to spine. Light wear and bumping. All bound with just a little give in the spine, and with some showthrough to gutter between gatherings in places, but a very usable book. Plain yellow endpapers with some cracking. Some spotting to endpapers.

Text is generally good throughout, with some age-toning. Gilt top edge and rough cut to vertical and lower edges. Previous owner's name in pencil to blank endpaper - Professor S. G. E. Lythe. Uncommon.
