The Poetical Works of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, William P. Nimmo edition, c. 1860, With inset Ivorine cover panel

An interesting, and uncommon, copy of Longfellow's poetry with a lovely Ivorine (?) panel cover insert.

Published by William P. Nimmo, Edinburgh. Printed by T. Constable, Edinburgh. Undated, but likely to be c. 1860.

A good full leather hardback with blind stamped textured decoration, gilt details and a really striking cover panel. The panel is set in a window in the lather and appears to be an ivorine type material, decorated with a gilt and printed title design. With gloss varnished finish, making it difficult to discern the exact material used. Very unusual and attractive.

Leather is bumped and scuffed, with spine being substantially dulled and worn. With a little give in the spine. Plain dark brown endpapers.Previous owner's name of 'Helen A. Baird' to free endpaper (appears to be either made by some kind of printed stamp, extremely fine calligraphy, or specially inserted sheet pre-binding. Half title with taped page binding repair at gutter. Some age spotting to endpapers and titles, with the original tissue guard also spotted.

With some full page illustrated plates, and page marker ribbon. Text is very good throughout. An appealing volume.
