In 1986 a large scale auction at Christies in Amsterdam sold Chinese porcelain from the shipwreck of the 'Geldermalsen', a VOC (United East India Company ship), recovered by Michael Hatcher the previous year. The ship sank in the South China Sea on January 3rd, 1752 and contained a large quantity of Chinese Blue and White porcelain from the 18th Century.

Offered here at two items from the Geldermalsen; a teabowl and saucer in the 'Blue Pine' pattern, consisting of a roundel of 2 leafy pines intertwining on a grassy rocky terrace below two bands of trellis pattern, containing four stylised petal flowerheads, with the bowl exterior with a single similar interlocking pine, circa 1750.

Both items are in very good condition with no cracking to the saucer and one intact hairline to the teabowl.

The 2 items are supplied with a letter from Brompton Fine Arts and each with a Certificate of Authenticity. The teabowl still retains its original Christies Lot Number sticker to the base.
