A very smart copy of the first volume in John Richardson's definitive biography of Picasso. He explores the early life and artistic beginnings of Pablo Picasso. The book follows his childhood in Spain, his move to Barcelona and Paris, and the evolution of his work during the Blue and Rose periods. Drawing on extensive research, Richardson examines the people, places, and experiences that shaped Picasso’s early vision, offering context to his developing style and ambition. This first volume presents a detailed account of the young artist’s world, setting the stage for his later influence on modern art.

A Life of Picasso, Volume I; 1881-1906, by John Richardson, with the collaboration of Marilyn McCully.

Published by Jonathan Cape, London, 1991. First edition, first impression.

A near fine grey cloth hardback with a printed translucent dustjacket. The grey cloth of the hardback also has a printed front cover and titles to spine. The book looks unread. Soundly bound. The jacket has some small signs of wear - a few small nicks to extremities.

Text is bright and clean throughout. There is a light discolored 3.5cm long  stain on the top edge of text block (otherwise not affecting the text pages). Well illustrated throughout. A most attractive book.
