Queen Mab; 1813, by Percy Bysshe Shelley.

Provenance; from the library of the late William St Clair (1937 - 2021), British historian, academic and author. His signature to first free endpaper and has written on a Post-it note that the book is a facsimile reprint. One other small pencil annotation. Please see our other listings for related works.

Originally published by Shelley in a private edition of just 250 copies, he distributed about 70 copies himself, and the others were held in storage at William Clark's bookshop. This led to unauthorised copies being sold and an expurgated version being produced, leading to a complex series of legal actions involving piracy and blasphemy.

Published by Woodstock Books, Oxford and New York, 1990. An uncommon edition.

A fine green cloth hardback with title label to spine. Dustjacket is near fine - carries a slightly faded section on the front cover where William St Clair had placed his Post-it note. Original price sticker to inside flap.

Text is fine and soundly bound.
