Diderot Encyclopedia; The Complete Illustrations 1762-1777, Harry N. Abrams, 1978 Boxed Set
A complete five-volume facsimile edition reproducing all of the engraved plates from Diderot and d’Alembert’s groundbreaking Encyclopédie, originally published between 1762 and 1777. This edition presents more than 3,000 detailed illustrations across four compact, well-bound volumes, with a fifth Index volume offering full plate references and subject listings for ease of use.
The engravings cover a remarkable range of Enlightenment-era knowledge, from architecture, anatomy, and scientific instruments to mechanical trades, manufacturing, agriculture, and the decorative arts. Faithfully reproduced from the original copperplate engravings, these images provide an extraordinary insight into 18th-century thought, industry, and design.
