This is the true first UK export edition, first impression. Generally considered to precede the UK domestic edition, but without any significant priority. The book contains the following identifying features:

Printed by William Clowes (domestic edition printed by Billing);

No price on flap (domestic is priced);

p330 - no full stop after Feanor;

p352 - Lord of the Waters and King of the Sea in italics;

and no colouring to upper edge of text block.

A near fine blue cloth hardback with gilt titles, with original dustjacket. Minor rubbing to book. The jacket is covered in removable protective plastic, and is slightly sunned to spine, and flaps with a little age toning.

Text is near fine and is soundly bound. Bright and clean with a little age toning to extremities.

The fold-out map is exceptionally good, with no faults, and remains bright and clean.
