The Decameron of Giovanni Boccacci (Il Boccaccio), now first completely done into English. The Stories which it has hitherto been the custom to censure emasculate or omit altogether and which are now presented in their entirety. 1887 Numbered Limited Edition for Private Circulation.

The Decameron is a collection of 14th Century short stories. The tales are said to be told by a group of seven young women and three young men, taking refuge in an Italian villa outside Florence, in order to avoid the black death. The stories are split into 10 nights of storytelling over a two week period.

Printed for Private Subscription and for Private Circulation only. London, 1887. Numbered, limited edition - this being number 209 of 250 copies.

A good hardback bound in a vellum-like parchment with gilt decals. Cover a little soiled and discolored with some creasing to spine. Offset staining to endpapers.

Text is bright and clean and soundly bound, with rough cut edges and printed on a good quality stock. A little dust toned to edges of text block. An interesting book.
