A Fauna of the Tay Basin & Strathmore by J. A. Harvie-Brown is the tenth volume in the Vertebrate Fauna of Scotland series. It documents the mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles of the Tay River basin and Strathmore, based on extensive fieldwork, including observations from 1905. The book details habitats such as lochs, glens, and wetlands, providing both scientific data and personal observations. Its maps and plates support a regionally focused yet ecologically broad study. Harvie-Brown's ability to present precise zoological information in an accessible style earned praise from contemporary reviewers.

John Alexander Harvie-Brown (1844–1916) was a Scottish naturalist known for his work on bird migration and regional vertebrate surveys. Educated in Edinburgh and Cambridge, he undertook expeditions across Scotland, Scandinavia, and northern Russia. A key contributor to early ornithological migration studies, including lighthouse-based observations, he published widely and co-authored much of the Vertebrate Fauna of Scotland series. His blend of thorough scientific documentation with engaging narrative made his work a lasting resource in British natural history.
