An attractive group of four illustrated issues from Le Livre Moderne Illustre, published in Paris between 1929 and 1931 by Ferenczi et Fils, showcasing the series’ distinctive combination of contemporary French literature and high-quality graphic illustration. The set includes works by Raymond Radiguet, Andre Maurois and Marc Elder, and exemplifies the interwar French taste for affordable yet artistically ambitious book production.

Set comprises:

No. 28: Le Bal du Compte d'Orgel, Roman, by Raymond Radiguet, 1929 (originally 1925), 187pp + 2pp;

No. 42: Les Silences du Colonel Bramble, by Andre Maurois, 1929, (originally 1921 ?), 157pp + 1pp;

No. 52: Meipe ou la Deliverance, by Andrew Maurois, 1929 (originally 1927), 158pp + 1pp; and; 

No. 118: Jacques et Jean, Roman, by Marc Elder, 1931 (originally 1931), 173pp + 1pp.

Published by Ferenczi et Fils, Editeurs, Paris, 1929-1931.

Provenance: From the library of Robert Ogilvie Crombie ("ROC", 1899-1975), Scottish supernatural enthusiast, scientist and author. Each book carries his name stamp to first free endpaper and handwritten library catalogue number to inside front cover. Books are also supplied in his removable plain black card wraps used as cover protectors (not pictured).

A set of 4 very good paperbacks. Some mild wear to covers and spines. Paper is age toned, as is expected with books from this series, due to the type of paper used. Otherwise bright and clean, and soundly bound. A really attractive set of books due to the beautiful illustrations contained in each volume.
