J.R.R. Tolkien; The Silmarillion of Beren and Luthien, read by Christopher Tolkien, Caedmon, 1977 vinyl record
A desirable spoken-word Tolkien recording featuring selections from The Silmarillion and Beren and Luthien, read by Christopher Tolkien, the author's son, literary executor, and principal editor of his father's posthumous works.
Issued by Caedmon in 1977, the recording was produced during the period when The Silmarillion was first being introduced to a wider readership following J.R.R. Tolkien’s death, and offers an especially authentic connection to the legendarium through Christopher Tolkien's own narration.
Combining passages of high fantasy, mythology, and tragic romance, the work centres on the tale of Beren and Luthien - one of the foundational stories of Tolkien’s Middle-earth mythology and a narrative of particular personal significance to the author himself.
