Large Vintage Chinese Rattan Wedding Basket / Food Carrier, 63cm high.

A traditional Chinese wedding basket, in the form of a three tier food carrier. Such vessels are normally used at Chinese wedding ceremonies. Although they can carry food, they are mainly used to hold wedding gifts to the groom's family.

There are often more than one used in the wedding ceremony.

Constructed from handwoven rattan, with bamboo with traditional Chinese patterns and wooden bases and supports. Each vertical handle features 2 detailed pictorial carvings on each side, probably of Guanyin Bodhisattva, with scenes of nature on either side.

Features brass/copper alloy hardware, with a dragon motif to the carrying handle.

In very good condition overall, with slight age related wear, but a very nice example.

Weight approximately 3.5kg (unpacked).
