The Triumph of Maximilian I; 137 Woodcuts by Hans Burgkmair and Others, Dover Publications, New York, 1964
A visually striking facsimile edition of one of the great artistic triumphs of the German Renaissance. The Triumph of Maximilian I reproduces the complete series of 137 woodcuts designed primarily by Hans Burgkmair, with contributions from Albrecht Altdorfer and others, originally commissioned to celebrate the reign and imperial power of Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I (1459–1519).
This volume from Dover Publications features high-quality reproductions of the monumental procession prints, accompanied by an English translation of the original German text, an informative introduction, and scholarly notes by Stanley Appelbaum. The work offers not only a rich artistic record of imperial iconography but also valuable insights into early 16th-century allegory, pageantry, and printmaking.
