A delightful copy of the first printing of Worzel Gummidge, the much loved living scarecrow, familiar to many in the UK from the later 1970s BBC television series starring Jon Pertwee. This book also went on to become the first paperback title published by Puffin Books in 1941. First impressions with the original dustjacket are scarce in commerce.

Worzel Gummidge or The Scarecrow of Scatterbrook, by Barbara Euphan Todd. Illustrated by Elizabeth Alldridge.

Published by Burns, Oates & Washbourne Ltd., London. 1936 first edition, first impression.

A very good red cloth hardback with black printed titles. Light wear and a small discolored stain area on the rear touching the spine. With a very slight skew in the binding, but a very good solid copy. No owner's inscription. Binding is sound.

Housed in the very scarce original dustjacket which is in good condition. Not price clipped (with the original '3s. 6d.' price). With wear and nibbles to extremities. No taped repairs. Now covered in a protective, removable clear plastic sleeve.

Text is bright and clean throughout. Mild offsetting to endpapers. Illustrations are in excellent bright condition. Red toned top edge (colour still strong). A lovely children's classic.

Text in English.

208pp. With frontispiece and 5 additional full page illustrations (all as called for).

Dimensions: Approximately 190mm high x 133mm wide x 27mm deep.
