This is an original printed paper music notation leaf known as antiphonary. These contain the musical score and latin chants used in religious choral chanting in the Roman faith. This would include the music known as Gregorian chants, which many people will be familiar with.

This sheet is of good size, enabling multiple choristers to view the music at once and beautifully printed, with some hand colouring, on handmade paper. A lovely example featuring an unusually good opening initial design.

It contains text in Latin and the 4 stave musical notation with square style notes of the time. The sheet is in double sided manuscript.

Exact origin is unknown, but 17th Century.

Approximately 49.2cm high x 29.5cm wide (19 inches x 11.6 inches).
