Provenance; from the library of the late William St Clair (1937 - 2021), British historian, academic and author. His signature to first pastedown and minor pencil annotations to rear. Please see our other listings for related works. 

Printed by Order of the Trustees, British Museum, London, 1928. This is the second edition of the earlier work, produced in a larger format with many more plates. This first part covered Prehellenic and Archaic sculptures of Greece. These early hardback catalogues are now uncommon.

A very good black hardback with gilt titles to spine. Covers with some rubbing and bumping and some crinkling to cloth in places. 

Some offsetting to first two pages at either end of the book. Otherwise text is bright and clean with black and white illustrations throughout. the plates at the rear are also bright and clean with tissue guards. Soundly bound.

viii + 214pp + 1pp + XLIII plates at rear, with guards. There is also one fold-out plate in the text.
