A Vision of Greece; Described and Painted by Vera Willoughby.

In poetic and theatrical prose Vera Willoughby (1870-1939), winds her way through the ancient sites and mythology of Greece, with love and affection. This is a travel book of sorts, but more of an artistic statement.

She was a British illustrator, whose work adorned many published books, and also designed posters for the London Underground.

Provenance; from the library of the late William St Clair (1937 - 2021), British historian, academic and author. No signatures or annotations. Please see our other listings for related works. 

Published by Philip Allan & Co, London, 15th October, 1925. First edition. A limited edition of 500 copies which finished printing on 11th September, 1925. Printed by The Camelot Press Limited, Southampton. 

A very good, almost near fine, ochre cloth hardback, with gilt titles. Slight bumping, with wear to corners and some rubbing and wear to extremities. Endpapers clean and bright. Soundly bound.

Text is clean and bright throughout. Occasional uncut top edge between pages. Beautifully illustrated with 16 colour plates. A very attractive and high quality publication.
