The Art of the Old English Potter, L.M. Solon, 1883, Numbered Limited edition 53/250, signed by Publisher
The Art of the Old English Potter by L. M. Solon is a classic late-Victorian study of English ceramics, first published in 1883 in a numbered limited edition. Solon, a distinguished ceramic artist and historian, explores the development of pottery in England from its earliest forms through to the celebrated wares of the eighteenth century. Written with both scholarly care and an artist's eye, the book combines historical narrative with an appreciation of design and craftsmanship, making it one of the standard references of its time for collectors and students of the decorative arts.

A very good copy of this very substantial, large folio-sized, hardback. In the original Publisher's yellow ochre cloth with elaborate brown printed design on all outer surfaces, making for a very striking appearance.
The book comes with a partial scarce original dustjacket, which is in poor condition, and comprises the front cover which is heavily worn and nibbled al round, with some plain fragmentary flaps. But rare to find any jacket at all.
Covers with some bumping to corners and head and tail of spine. Light shelf wear. Endpapers with some cracking, but binding still sound.
Text pages are bright and clear throughout with some age-browning and spotting to extremities. Plates are of high quality, with their original tissue guards.
An impressive volume.
