Mauchline Ware; Pearl Edition; The Poetical Works of Robert Burns, David Bryce & Son, Glasgow, c. 1880-1890
A charming example of a miniature book of Robert Burns' poetry bound in Mauchline Ware wooden covers.
Pearl Edition; The Poetical Works of Robert Burns.
Published by David Bryce & Son, Glasgow. Undated, but c. 1880-1890.
A fair copy of this attractive little book. Front and rear covers are of sycamore wood with printed decoration of the Wallace Monument to the front cover. With brown leather spine with gilt decoration and gilt title reading 'Burns Poems'. Front cover is darker than rear. The wooden Mauchline Ware covers are now only bound weakly to the text block, and two thirds of the rear joint is completely split from spine. With patterned endpapers and previous owner's name to first free endpaper.
Text is bright and clean throughout with some light age-toning, with only minor occasional spotting. Some foxing to endpapers. On thin 'bible style' paper meaning this small book contains over 300 pages of very small printed text. Red tinted edges to text block.
Text in English/Scots.
304pp + (7) Index.
Weight: approximately 28g (unpacked).
Dimensions:
Approximately 86mm tall x 62mm wide x 15mm deep.
