Four Topographical Letters, written in July 1755, Upon a Journey thro' Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire, &c. From a Gentleman of London, to his Brother and Sister in Town: Giving a Description of the Country thro' which he pass'd; with Observations on every Thing that occurred to him, either Curious or Remarkable.

The previous owner identifies (in pencil) the author, as being 'Resta Patching (or Patchen), an Innkeeper of Gracechurch Street, London'. Scarce. This seems to be generally accepted and the initials R.P. sign off the book.

Published by I. Thompson and Company, Newcastle Upon Tyne, and fold by E. Comyns and H. Cooke, London, 1757. 1st edition.

A good hardback with later binding with black leather spine and corners and marbled paper over boards. Worn to hinges and extremities. Covers weakly bound. Ex-library - reference number stamp to front cover, lower text block edge and endpapers, and blind-stamped roundel to title.

Inner joints split. The 18th Century text is in good shape, with some scattered age spotting (more pronounced on title page), but is clean and legible throughout. Small tear to final printed page, not affecting textAn interesting curio.
