The Tryals of Thomas Walcot, William Hone, William Lord Russell, John Rous & William Blagg, for High-Treason, for Conspiring the Death of the King, and Raising a Rebellion in this Kingdom: At the Sessions-House in the Old-baily London, on a Commission of Oyer and Terminer held there for the City of London and County of Middlesex, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 12, 13, and 14. 1683.

A fascinating insight into the legal process of 17th Century justice. This is the detailed contemporay account of the trial of those involved in the 'Rye House Plot' to assasinate King Charles II. Those accused were found guilty and executed, but not without controversy, and William Lord Russell was posthumously pardoned.

Printed for Richard Roston, Benjamin Took and Charles Mearn, London, 1683. First edition. They were the exclusive authorised printers, as granted by the Mayor, Will. Prichard.

A very good copy housed in a modern binding, with a tan leather spine with gilt titles, and a red textured paper over boards, with a crocodile skin pattern.

Title page slightly trimmed to vertical edge. Generally in clean condition, but with toning commensurate with age. Occasional marginal marks. Penultimate page light creased and final page with paper repairs and small edge tear. Some light pencil annotations. This copy consistent with ESTC R21861, with the penultimate line of the title reading "Friday and".

Also included is some related material, such as a photocopied extract from "Russell and Rye House" by Harold Armitage, and a few other printed papers.

A fascinating, and uncommon, publication for those interested in English history.
