An interesting bound volume comprising two early 20th Century books on Edinburgh.

Comprising;

Official Guide to Edinburgh, 1912. Issued by Authority of The Magistrates and Council. Published by Authority of the Magistrates and Council. Published by Munro & Co., Edinburgh and printed by Hugh Paton & Sons, Edinburgh; and;

About St. Matthew's Morningside; The Book of the Bazaar, comprising Accounts of the Church & Buildings by Competent Authorities; Memories of Morningside by Robert Cochrane; Sunset on the Heights by J. Logie Robertson; and Full Official Information. With Frontispiece by William Hole, R.S.A. and other Illustrations. Printed for the Committee by R. & R. Clark, Limited, Edinburgh, 1908.

Both presumed first editions. Two books bound as one. Both uncommon publications. Only 3 copies of the St Matthew's book are listed on Worldcat.

A very good black buckram cloth hardback with gilt to spine, titled 'Guide to Edinburgh'. Mild bumping and wear. Soundly bound. Offsetting to free endpapers, with previous owner's pencil annotations (removable). They state that the book is ex-library of J.C. Robbie of Edinburgh, who has written a small annotation on p. 25 of the St Matthew's book.

The text is very good - bright and clear throughout. Well illustrated, and includes advertisements of the day.

Official Guide to Edinburgh; Prelims + 35-155pp + Plates + fold-out Map of Edinburgh. Includes original covers - it is not apparent why the main text of the book begins at p.35;

About St. Matthew's Morningside; iv + 64pp + Plates + fold-out Map of the Barony of Braid. Includes original covers.
