Tales of a Grandfather (History of Scotland). By Sir Walter Scott.

SOLD

Originally intended as a series of tales on Scottish history for Scott's 6 year old grandson, three series were originally published between 1828 and 1829. They were followed by a 4th series on French history in 1830. This book comprises the first 3 series on Scotland.

Scott's importance to literature really cannot be overstated - his work was highly influential and immensely popular across Europe at the time of writing and for many years afterwards.

Published by Robert Cadell, Edinburgh and Houlston and Stoneman, London, 1851.

A good full black leather hardback with raised bands to spine with gilt title. Front and back covers also feature the initials A.L. in gilt Gothic letters. Presumable the previous owner's initials. Gilt decoration to edge of boards. Covers with some scuffing and bumping. Plain yellow endpapers, cracked at hinges, but soundly bound. Very small bookseller's stamp to first pastedown.

Text is very good throughout - bright and clean, with no spotting. The title and first few pages have a mild vertical crease. With fabric page marker ribbon. Gilt edges to text block are bright and shiny.

Text in English.
